The Truth About Kate
Davy Pieters/Frascati Producties
The Truth About Kate is the reconstruction of a self-fabricated identity meets staged documentary, in which a young woman looks back on her life. She talks about herself in the past perfect tense, third person singular. And she plays all the roles herself. Including the voice-over. Searching for admiration, drama and mystery, she becomes caught up in her own creation. Her life increasingly resembles a dizzying, media-saturated nightmare full of fake emotions and horrific, traumatic fake emotions. Kate creates a life in which anything is possible and in which she needn’t take responsibility for anything that happens.
The Truth About Kate has been selected for the National Dutch Theatre Festival 2014 and is included in Circuit X, meaning the production will play at Het Theaterfestival in Antwerp, followed by a tour of Flanders. In addition, Davy Pieters has been nominated with this production for the BNG Bank Nieuwe Theatermakersprijs award.
Jibbe Willems won the Artes Jongtheaterschrijfprijs award at Vlaamse Theater aan Zee for the script for The Truth About Kate.
