In DO NOT LOOK BACK WITH REGRET, Pieters explores the vulnerability of the body and life on earth with her distinctive signature. In this visual and cinematic performance, we see two women (played by Irene Schaltegger and Klára Alexová) in a process of farewell, grief, and in search for comfort. What if you are confronted with loss? Where is your refuge if the end is in sight?
DO NOT LOOK BACK WITH REGRET offers the opportunity to pause and reflect on loss and the finitude of everything.
DO NOT LOOK BACK WITH REGRET is nominated for the VSCD Mime award 2021. The jury writes ” The visual language is as sublimated as it is overwhelming. Blackouts separate the scenes into cinematic shots, in which time seems to jump forward or backward. All the while black ashes are falling down steadily, Varja Klosse’s sparse lighting design is magical, and Jimi Zoet’s soundscape tingles and thunders. The stillness of the closing scene speaks of both an intimate togetherness, and a farewell. Here a grand, universal story is told with minimal resources.”
